I'm not in the business of predicting middle names, but I find them as equally fascinating as the first names I am in charge of prognosticating. Some parents choose middle names to honor loved ones, some use it as a place to go bold, and others are most concerned with the how the middle name adds to the flow of the full name.
Carrie Underwood and Mike Fisher fall into the first category, giving their son the name Isaiah Michael—his middle being Dad's full first name. Robin Thicke's children have the daring middle names of Fuego and Love, and Nev Schulman's daughter has James in the middle (which I argue is a product of her 2016 birthday). Eddie Murphy's children have middle names including Mitchell, Ivy, and Oona, and Taylor Hanson's kids middles range from the expected to the out-there, with names like Anne, Ezra, and Moriah.
So even though I've only given my predictions for the first names, I'm very excited to see what this group of celebrities decides to go with for their children's middle names as well. Check out my musings, and leave a comment about potential middle name options!
Carrie Underwood and Mike Fisher
Gender: girl
Siblings: Isaiah Michael
It's going to be a girl for Carrie Underwood and hockey player husband Mike Fisher. Three years ago they welcomed a son named Isaiah, a name that's understated (by celebrity standards) but speaks to their religious convictions. For their daughter I expect they'll go a similar route—a name that is on-trend, but with spiritual significance.
Girl: Abigail, Eden, Everly, Felicity, Grace, Haven, Layla, Madeline, Olivia
*Update* It's a boy—Jacob Bryan!
Troian Bellisario and Patrick J. Adams
Gender: unknown
Siblings: none
Actress Troian Bellisario is known for having an unconventional name. Troian (pronounced TROY-en) is actually a family surname. Might they use a different family surname for their baby? (Marsh and Pratt are attractive options). It's a possibility, but I could also see them using something more established, perhaps like one of the following:
Girl: Anais, Astrid, Celeste, Colette, Dahlia, Esme, Fiona, Linnea, Sylvie, Wren
Boy: Alastair, Bastian, Bodhi, Clark, Cyrus, Harlan, Otto, Marsh, Pratt, Ronan
Laura Perlongo and Nev Schulman
Gender: unknown
Siblings: Cleo James
Cleo James Schulman was born in 2016, and her name definitely reflects that. After Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds named their daughter James in December of 2015, we saw a bunch of celebrities put it in the middle spot for their baby girls the following year. The trend has died down now (it's still happening, but not with the same frequency). In trying to come up with a 2018 equivalent, I couldn't think of any names that have made that same kind of impact. So I'm very curious to see what this baby's middle name will be, especially if it's a girl. Although for his or her first name, I feel like I have a better grasp on the possibilities.
Girl: Agnes, Della, Effie, Esme, Ivy, Nessa, Phoebe, Pippa, Romy, Tess, Zelda
Boy: Abe, Alistair, Bram, Felix, Hank, Harvey, Jasper, Joah, Noam, Otto, Rex
*Update* Welcome, Beau Bobby Bruce!
Lily Aldridge and Caleb Followill
Gender: unknown
Siblings: Dixie Pearl
Caleb Followill is a Southern boy, born and raised in Tennessee. It's no surprise then that he and wife Lily Aldridge gave their daughter the country-cute name Dixie in 2012. I'm expecting they might follow suit for baby number two's name—something similarly short, sweet, and oozing with Southern charm.
Girl: Birdie, Charlie, Delta, Emmie, Faye, Polly, Ruby, Sadie, Scarlett, Stella
Boy: August, Beau, Duke, Gage, Hudson, Jack, Jay, Kit, Lane, Sailor, Warren
*Update* Hello, Winston Roy!
April Love Geary and Robin Thicke
Gender: girl
Siblings: Julian Fuego (previous relationship), Mia Love
Robin Thicke's older two children's names follow one of my favorite patterns—a well-used (dare I say ordinary?) first name, paired with an unconventional middle. I don't know what April and Robin will use for baby girl's middle name—maybe something like True, Poet, or Winter—but here are my picks for her first name:
Girl: Allegra, Celia, Clara, Elena, Lea, Livia, Lola, Luna, Stella, Vera, Zoey
*Update* I got it—Lola Alain!
Paige O'Brien and Josh Peck
Gender: unknown
Siblings: none
Josh Peck and his wife Paige O'Brien are young, fun, and a little bit goofy. So how will this translate into their baby's name? Well, I think we'll see something modern and lighthearted from this couple. Nothing too classic, long, or fussy. I could see Josh and Paige going with any of my picks, but who knows? Maybe they'll surprise us.
Girl: Ella, Hazel, Isla, Josie, Lila, Maya, Mina, Nora, Poppy, Tessa, Vivienne
Boy: Callum, Dylan, Elliot, Grady, Griffin, Leo, Liam, Miles, Nolan, Owen
*Update* Close one—Milo Max!
Paige Butcher and Eddie Murphy
Gender: unknown
Siblings: Eric, Bria, Christian, Miles Mitchell, Shaye Audra, Bella Zahra, Zola Ivy, Angel Iris (previous relationships), Izzy Oona
It's baby number ten (yep, ten) for Eddie Murphy. For having so many siblings ranging in ages from 2 to 29, this baby is entering into a surprisingly cohesive sibset. That being said, his or her name will probably be most similar to Izzy's, considering they will be the closest in age and share the same mother.
Girl: Ariel, Aviva, Cece, Dove, Enya, Jem, Lacey, Lux, Mia, Raya, True, Vivi, Willow
Boy: Axel, Cato, Dashiell, Fletcher, Flynn, Jack, Jude, Logan, Max, Nash, Sonny, Theo
*Update* Yep, baby boy is Max Charles!
Natalie and Taylor Hanson
Gender: unknown
Siblings: Jordan Ezra, Penelope "Penny" Anne, River Samuel, Viggo Moriah, Wilhelmina "Willa" Jane
Musician Taylor Hanson and wife Natalie have five (soon to be six) kids, and their names seem to be getting more adventurous as they go along. Their sons all have two-syllable first names and Biblical middles, while their daughters have long first names--but go by shorter nicknames--with conventional middles. Will they keep up this pattern for their next son or daughter?
Girl: Beatrice, Dorothea, Emmeline, Evangeline, Harriet, Henrietta, Josephine, Matilda
Boy: Declan, Gideon, Harmon, Magnus, Miles, Orin, Phineas, Rafferty, Tobin, Wolf
*Update* It's a boy—Claude Indiana Emmanuel!

Celebrity Baby Name Suggestions: Volume 2
![]() |
| Foss Design via Etsy |
Emily Blunt and John Krasinski
Gender: unknown
Siblings: Hazel
Hazel is super sweet and subtly vintage. I think they'll pick another on-trend name with retro roots.
Boy: August, Charlie, Felix, Finn, Julian, Louis, Oscar, Russell, Spencer, Toby, Walter
Girl: Ada, Cora, Fiona, Gemma, Georgia, Helena, Ivy, Phoebe, Poppy, Ruthie, Zara
*Update* Another color-nature name for the Krasinski clan--Violet!
Erica Hanson and Ike Barinholtz
Gender: unknown
Siblings: Foster (g)
The hilarious Ike Barinholtz (Morgan Tookers on The Mindy Project) and his wife Erica went the androgynous surname route for their little girl. I expect they'll choose something similar for baby #2, regardless of gender.
Boy: Coleman, Cormac, Fielding, Gardner, Hart, Holt, Huck, Shepherd, Sumner
Girl: Abbott, Campbell, Connelly, Hadley, Halsey, Hollis, Madden, Sheridan, Sloane
*Update* Another girl--Payton June!
Holly Madison and Pasquele Rotella
Gender: unknown
Siblings: Rainbow Aurora
Holly Madison surprised us all when it turned out she had secretly (and subtly) revealed the first name of her daughter via Twitter. In this article she reveals she likes word names as well as Disney inspired ones. Keeping that in mind, here are my predictions.
Boy: Anthem, Charming, Diesel, Dragon, Echo, Flynn, Hero, Spirit, Temple, Treasure, Valentine
Girl: Ariel, Chrysanthemum, Bliss, Bluebell, Fantasia, Forever, Holiday, Jubilee, Meadow, Pixie
*Update* She does love word names--baby boy is Forest Leonardo Antonio!
Alanis Morisette and Mario Treadway
Gender: unknown
Siblings: Ever Imre (b)
Imre, Alanis Morissette and Mario Treadway's son's middle name, is not one you hear often. It's actually a Hungarian name, which ties back to Morissette's heritage. Might we see another Hungarian choice? Or perhaps something from her French-Irish side of the family? More word names? I guess we'll wait and see.
Boy: Bence, Hawk, Judge. Justice, King, Laszlo, Maverick, Noble, Rogue, True
Girl: Emerald, Fable, Harbor, Haven, Ireland, Lyric, Mika, Rebel, Sailor, Story
*Update* It's a girl for Alanis Morisette--Onyx Solace!
Lisa Ling and Paul Song
Gender: unknown
Siblings: Jett Ling (g)
Wow, we have a lot of word name-loving celebs this month! Lisa Ling named her daughter Jett back in 2013, and I'm curious to see if she chooses another unisex word name for baby number two.
Boy: Archer, Canyon, Cove, Dashiell, Dax, Fletcher, Fox, Kit, Park, Rex, Rocco
Girl: Bird, Domino, Grey, Indie, Liv, Max, Monroe, Poet, Scout, Sea, Sutton
*Update* It's a girl--Ray Ling Song!
Alexi Ashe and Seth Meyers
Gender: unknown
Siblings: none
Late Night host Seth Meyers' wife Alexi are pregnant with their first. It's hard to make predictions about name choice without an older sibling's name to look to (they do have a dog named Frisbee, not that that helps), but I have a feeling this couple isn't going to choose anything wild and crazy.
Boy: Bennett, Conrad, Eli, Emmett, Ford, Graham, Henry, Jay, Judson, Lawson, Reid
Girl: Amelie, Cecilia, Eleanor, Eve, Fiona, Ivy, Lily, Madeleine, Nadia, Nina, Rosie
*Update* It's a boy, and his name is Ashe Olson--the maiden names of Alexi and Seth's mother. How sweet!
Paige Mitchell and Eddie Murphy
Gender: unknown
Siblings: Eric, Christian, Bria, Myles, Shayne, Zola, Bella, and Angel (g)
It's baby number nine for Eddie Murphy! With this many kids, it's hard to keep sibsets super cohesive. But taking inspiration from his youngest ones, I would expect the baby to be named...
Boy: Ace, Cash, Chaz, Jax, Jayce, Lynx, Phoenix, Xander, Zaire, Zack
Girl: Asha, Asia, Faith, Jade, Jasmine, Jolie, Journey, Liberty, Nala, Skyla
*Update* Hello, Izzy Oona!
Soleil Moon Frye and Jason Goldberg
Gender: unknown
Siblings: Poet Sienna Rose, Jagger Joseph Blue (g), and Lyric Sonny Roads (b)
After three babies, I think we have a pretty good handle on Soleil Moon Frye's naming style--artistic word names. She's a fan of gender-bending though, so I might as well have left off the boy and girl labels.
Boy: Crescent, Drummer, Freedom, Jazz, Journey, Ocean, Mystery, Rhapsody
Girl: Dancer, Dreamer, Fable, Galaxy, Pastel, Silhouette, Swan, Velvet, Whimsy
*Update* Soleil has welcomed a little boy named Story!
Nicky Hilton and James Rothschild
Gender: unknown
Siblings: none
Coming from such a high-profile family, the pressure's on Nicky Hilton Rothschild to choose a marvelous name for her son or daughter. Something tells me it's going to be a little bit dramatic and extravagant, but still wearable.
Boy: Alastair, Augustine, Bennington, Charleston, Maximilian, Reginald, Whittaker
Girl: Angeline, Aurelia, Calixta, Clarissa, Emmeline, Simone, Valentina, Veronique
*Update* Welcome Lily Grace Victoria!
Liv Tyler and David Gardner
Gender: unknown
Siblings: Milo and Sailor Gene
When both of Liv Tyler's sons were born, their names were on the cusp of cool. I suspect she will make a similar choice when it comes to her third child.
Boy: Asa, Cyrus, Dashiell, Finn, Jude, Nico, Otto, Phoenix, Reid, Royce
Girl: Carys, Delilah, Elodie, Ivy, Luna, Marnie, Matilda, Pearl, Tallulah
*Update* I was close with Luna and Tallulah--baby girl is Lula Rose!
Chelsea
Clinton and Marc Mezvinsky
Gender: unknown
Siblings: Charlotte
A new Clinton baby will be arriving in the midst of a busy summer for it's presidental candidate grandma, Hillary. First daughter Chelsea and her husband Marc chose the name Charlotte for their first child--ranked at #10 the year she was born. Charlotte is a soft, vintage-inspired name that feels very current right now. My guess is her sibling will have a similar name.
Boy: Andrew, Graham, James, Jasper, Julian, Harrison, Levi, Paul, Spencer, Thomas, William
Girl: Alice, Annabel, Audrey, Eleanor, Elizabeth, Evelyn, Genevieve, Lucy, Madeleine, Nora
*Update* Welcome Aidan Clinton Mezvinsky!

Name the Blogger Baby: Volume One
![]() |
| via Stephanie Fishwick |
Kate Arends
Blog: Wit & Delight
Due Date: July 2016
Gender: Unknown
Siblings: None
Lovely lifestyle blogger Kate Arends announced her pregnancy last week. She has self proclaimed "simple and modern" style, which I used for inspiration when coming up with these names--no frills, pre-nicknamed choices. Kate and her husband Joe have a dog called Winnie Bear, so I'm expecting something a little unexpected in the middle.
Girl: Annika, Anya, Darcy, Evie, Greta, Gwen, Ida, Lainey, Marlowe, Maude, Tessa
Boy: Arlo, Charlie, Cyrus, Finn, Gable, Jack, Ian, Max, Milo, Nate, Otis, Quinn, Rex
*Update* It's a boy! August Joseph Peters.
Jordan Ferney
Blog: Oh Happy Day
Due Date: June 2016
Gender: Girl
Siblings: Roman and Moses
Finally! I can't wait to see what Jordan Ferney names a daughter. She chose two hip but meaningful names for her sons, so the possibilities are endless for this little girl. The Ferneys are world-travelers, (and especially fond of France) so using that as my guide, I came up with these suggestions.
Girl: Anais, Emanuelle, France, Holiday, India, Lark, Marigold, Minnie, Primrose, Tallulah, Zella
*Update* I guess they love that long O sound, because baby girl is Simone!
Chelsea Foy
Blog: Lovely Indeed
Due Date: September 2016
Gender: Unknown
Siblings: Henry
Chelsea Foy has the sweetest son named Henry (but who she calls Tiny Foy), so I think an equally charming, slightly vintage name is in order for baby #2.
Girl: Alice, Clara, Ella, Eloise, Ivy, Josie, Nora, Phoebe, Piper, Ruby, Sadie, Stella
Boy: Asher, August, Charlie, Eli, Elliot, Felix, Levi, Maxwell, Nolan, Oliver, Owen
Liz Stanley
Blog: Say Yes
Due Date: April 2016
Gender: Girl
Siblings: Henry and Elizabeth Jean "Edie"
Funnily enough, Liz Stanley is Jordan Ferney's sister-in-law, and they're both having daughters within months of each other. This first cousin is coming any day now, and I can't wait to see what she's named. Liz's first daughter shares her full name, Elizabeth Jean, but is called Edie. I went with vintage names on the rise for my suggestions--nothing too old-school, because her other sister-in-law Gabby Blair (of Design Mom fame) has that on lock--six kids named Ralph, Maude, Olive, Betty, Oscar, and June!
Girl: Cecilia, Charlotte, Hazel, Ivy, Jane, Lucy, Lydia, Nellie, Rosie, Sophie, Sylvie
*Update* Welcome Dorothea May Stanley! They plan on calling her Dot and Dottie.
Bonnie Tsang
Blog: B for Bonnie
Due Date: August 2016
Gender: Girl
Siblings: Venise
Bonnie Tsang's tween daughter is named Venise--an uncommon name that I can't seem to categorize. However, after twelve years naming styles can change! So I'm very curious to here the name of Bonnie's next daughter.
Girl: Allegra, Calais, Cecile, Ciel, Louise, Opal, Roux, Sabine, Solange, Vesper, Zadie
*Update* Welcome Miss Henri Elizabeth Martin!

Celebrity Baby Name Predictions: Volume 6
![]() |
| via Marion WD Tumblr |
This month’s predictions features two exciting firsts for me: my first
twin prediction, and my first Duggar prediction! I’ve been crossing my fingers
for a Duggar pregnancy announcement since I started this series six months ago,
and now here it is. But that’s not all the good news this month. Mick Jagger is
going to be a dad again, as is Sam Worthington. Plus, Jenna Jameson is having
her third baby. This means we’ve got a lot of stylish, alliterative, and
probably zany birth announcements coming up. I’ve taken a stab at predicting
them below.
Melanie Hamrick and Mick Jagger
Gender: unknown
Siblings: Georgia, James, Jade, Elizabeth, Lucas,
Karis, Gabriel (all from previous relationships)
Even though the names of
Mick Jagger’s children seem all over the place in terms of sibset cohesion,
there’s one thing they all have in common: undeniably British style. I have a
feeling baby number eight’s name will fit right in.
Girl: Bryony, Cressida, Gemma, Imogen, Isadora,
Ivy, Poppy, Tabitha, Tallulah
Boy: Charlie, Lewis, Milo, Nico, Oliver,
Sebastian, Simon, Spencer, Richie, Rex
*Update* Yep, they went British--baby boy is Devereaux Octavian Basil!
*Update* Yep, they went British--baby boy is Devereaux Octavian Basil!
Kirsten and Jon Heder
Gender: girl
Siblings: Evan Jane(g), Philip, Timothy
Even though Jon Heder is
known for playing a character named Napoleon, his personal naming style is much
tamer. His sons have very traditional names, while his daughter has an
uncommon, but on-trend unisex name—Evan. Using that as my guide, I made picks
for the Heders that would be perfect for their sibset.
Girl: Anna, Brenna, Claire, Grace, Harper, Kate, Leah, Maggie, Nora, Paige, Piper
Girl: Anna, Brenna, Claire, Grace, Harper, Kate, Leah, Maggie, Nora, Paige, Piper
Grace Gail and Adam Rodriguez
Gender: unknown
Siblings: Frankie Elle(g)
Frankie is definitely
having a moment right now. It’s cute and not-so-serious, and makes a great
nickname for some terrific longer names. Frankie Rodriguez is just Frankie
though, so I have a hunch Grace and Adam might choose another nickname-y name
for baby number two.
Girl: Clara, Etta, Evie, Georgia, Ivy, Josie, Lena, Libby, Liza, Lucy, Nellie, Rosie
Girl: Clara, Etta, Evie, Georgia, Ivy, Josie, Lena, Libby, Liza, Lucy, Nellie, Rosie
Boy: Arlo, Ben, Gus, Jamie, Jonathan, Julian,
Leo, Louie, Milo, Nico, Rudy, Sammy
Molly Sims and Scott Stuber
Gender: unknown
Siblings: Brooks Alan, Scarlett May
The Stuber sibset is
preppy as can be, with a healthy dose of Southern charm. If they stick with
that theme, I bet their third child will have one of the following names.
Girl: Adelaide, Audrey, Evelyn, Harlow, Laurel,
Sadie, Savannah, Stella, Vivienne
Boy: Beau, Clayton, Dean, Hayes, Preston, Reid,
Spencer, Tate, Tucker, Waylon
*Update* A boy--Grey Douglas!
*Update* A boy--Grey Douglas!
Danneel Harris and
Jensen Ackles
Gender: boy girl twins!
Siblings: Justice Jay "JJ" (g)
Double trouble--a boy
and a girl are on the way for the Ackles family. Twins can be tricky to name. You
want the pair to be cohesive on its own, but also fit in with the larger
sibset. I’m excited to hear Jensen and Danneel’s choices, especially since
their daughter has such a fun name.
Girl: Alexis, Brynn, Eden, Grace, Harper, Quinn,
Payton, Rain, Rowan, Skye
Boy: Alex, Beckett, Brave, Hayden, Jude, Phoenix,
Rocky, Sawyer, Tristan, Zion
*Update* The twins are here! Baby girl is Arrow Rhodes, and baby boy is Zeppelin Bram.
*Update* The twins are here! Baby girl is Arrow Rhodes, and baby boy is Zeppelin Bram.
Jenna Jameson and Lior
Britton
Gender: unknown
Siblings: Jesse Jameson, Journey Jette (both from a
previous relationship)
Something tells me this
baby is going to have another double J name. Jenna Jameson’s twin sons’
names aren’t a complete match stylistically, so it’s a total toss up in terms
of her approach for baby number three. Will she go with a more traditional and
well-liked name a la Jesse? Or choose a trendy unisex name like Journey?
Girl: Jacy, Jade, Jasmine, Jayla, Jersey, Jewel,
Jezebel, Jolie, Jubilee, Jules, Juliette
Boy: Jace, Jack, Jagger, Jamie, Jaxon, Jayden,
Jenson, Jethro, Jude, Judson, Justice
*Update* Not a J name--a girl named Batel Lu!
*Update* Not a J name--a girl named Batel Lu!
Lara Bingle and Sam
Worthington
Gender: unknown
Siblings: Rocket Zot
Rocket Zot is the
craziest celebrity baby name you've never heard of. This Australian couple
gave their son a very unique combination of names, and I have no doubt that they’re
going to do it again. The only question is, what combo will it be this time?
Girl: Ember, Fable, Moxie, Mystery, Pixie, Rebel,
Rumor, Story, Spirit
Boy: Blaze, Breaker, Diesel, Dragon, Legend, Neon,
Noble, Storm
*Update* Welcome Racer!
*Update* Welcome Racer!
Jessa and Ben Seewald
Gender: unknown
Siblings: Spurgeon Elliot
The Duggars are known
for their baby name choices, but Jessa and Ben have promised not to do a letter
theme. Instead, it seems as if they are naming their babies after famous
Christians. The Seewalds are not afraid to go bold with baby names, so I didn’t
hold back when making my predictions. I wouldn’t hold it past them to name a
daughter Pink (which I’m secretly rooting for)!
Girl: Annie, Carey, Hedley, Isobel, Lottie, Piper,
Pink, Ryle, Susanna, Teresa
Boy: Baxter, Benjamin, Lawson, Leland, Luther,
Owen, Paul, Tozer, Washer, Wells
*Update* It's a boy—Henry Wilberforce!

Celebrity Baby Name Predictions: Volume 11
We're
only two months into 2017, and already we have been blessed with the two best
pregnancy announcements of the year (dare I say decade?). Yes, both Beyoncé and
Amal Clooney are pregnant. Better yet—they're each having twins. The Carters
and Clooneys are American royalty, and these will be regal pregnancies. So
start placing your bets! What are the odds of a Queen Carter or Warren Clooney
(500/1? 2500/1?)? I'm not quite sure, but I am confident that whatever the
names of these noble children, they will be fit for a prince or a
princess.
Beyoncé and
Jay Z
Gender: unknown twins
Siblings: Blue Ivy
Blue Ivy
is a name with such subtle significance for Beyoncé and Jay Z that no one
predicted it back in 2012. The Carters are likely to surprise us again with the
names of their twins, but I made my best guesses as to what they might be.
Maybe another name that nods to the number four, or an honor name?
Girl: Celeste, Chatura, Delta, Lumi, Lux, Moon, Nova, Queen, September, Soleil
Girl: Celeste, Chatura, Delta, Lumi, Lux, Moon, Nova, Queen, September, Soleil
Boy: Chance, Deréon, Dynasty, Hero, Luck, Nash, Origin,
Quade, Royal, Truth
*Update* Welcome to Rumi and Sir Carter!
*Update* Welcome to Rumi and Sir Carter!
Amal Alamuddin and George Clooney
Gender: girl/boy twins
Siblings: none
The
rumors were true! Amal and George Clooney are going to be parents to twins—a boy
and a girl. The latest rumors say that the Clooneys love classic names,
especially ones that honor family members. Luckily George has many well-named
relatives to draw inspiration from.
Girl: Eleanor, Elizabeth, Emma, Frances, Helen, Jane,
Louise, Margaret, Marie, Nina, Rose
Boy: Andrew, Charles, Edward, Henry, James, Joseph,
Nicholas, Peter, Philip, Warren
*Update* The twins are here! Ella and Alexander Clooney
*Update* The twins are here! Ella and Alexander Clooney
GloZell Green and Kevin Simon
Gender: unknown
Siblings: O'Zell Gloriana De Green
YouTube
personality GloZell Green gave her daughter the honor name to end all honor
names. She took bits and pieces of her family members' names and came up with
O'Zell Gloriana De Green. Lest you think GloZell used all possible honor names
at once, I have some fresh ideas for her.
Girl: Gigi, Glorielle, Glory, Glow, Ria, Zella, Zia, Zoria
Girl: Gigi, Glorielle, Glory, Glow, Ria, Zella, Zia, Zoria
Boy: Deon, Evan, Kevin, Orlando, Oz, Shaw, Shawn, Zevi
Chelsea
Peretti and Jordan Peele
Gender: unknown
Siblings: none
Chelsea
Peretti and Jordan Peele have stressed that they want their child to have a
happy name. Whether that means a name that means happy or one with an upbeat, friendly
feel, I've got it covered.
Girl: Abby, Blythe, Emilia, Fiona, Georgia, Julia, Livia,
Lucy, Sadie, Trixie
Boy: Arlo, Asher, Dexter, Felix, Gus, Henry, Milo, Nico,
Oscar, Otto, Roscoe
*Update* It's a boy--Beaumont Gino!
*Update* It's a boy--Beaumont Gino!
Elizabeth Smart and Matthew Gilmour
Gender: boy
Siblings: Chloé
Elizabeth
Smart and Matthew Gilmour gave their daughter the name Chloé, with an intentional
accent over the E. This French-ification makes me think they'll choose a
similarly European name for their son.
Boy: Bastien, Dominic, Jackson, James, Leo, Luca, Max,
Michael, Pierce, Simon
*Update* Yes, it's James!
*Update* Yes, it's James!
Rosie Huntington-Whitely and Jason Statham
Gender: boy
Siblings: none
British
couple Rosie Huntington-Whitely and Jason Statham are expecting their first
child later this year—a baby boy! The pair currently reside in Hollywood, but I
suspect their little one's name will have some English flair as a nod to Mom
and Dad's home country.
Boy: Charles, Frankie, Harvey, Hunter, Jake, Oliver, Rex, Toby,
Winston, Yates
*Update* Hello, Jack Oscar!
*Update* Hello, Jack Oscar!
Hannah Davis and Derek Jeter
Gender: girl
Siblings: none
It's been
said that Derek Jeter already has a name picked out for his unborn daughter,
but he's keeping it a secret for now. Whatever he has in mind, I have a feeling
it's sweet and feminine.
Girl: Amelia, Aubrey, Charlie, Charlotte, Dorothy, Grace, Laila, Natalia
*Update* Feminine, indeed! Welcome, Bella Raine!

"streamlined" name.

Celebrity Baby Name Predictions: Volume 23
When it
comes to naming babies, everyone has a different set of priorities and values.
One we talk about a lot is sibset coherence. Whether or not you're a name nerd,
it's easy to see the merits of a coordinated sibset. Oftentimes one has to
refer to their children as a group, and well-matched names makes it easy for
others to view them as a set.
But how much does this matter when the siblings
of a new baby are adults? My inclination is: not much. Adult children are off
living their own lives, and the amount of times they will be lumped into the
same group as their infant sibling is much less than if they had grown up
together. Therefore, I don't think anyone should stress over trying to find the
perfect name for their son who will be twenty years his sister's junior. Tastes
change over the years, and after a few decades, so do styles.
Many celebrities expecting babies this month are
going to be naming children with 20 or 30-plus age differences from some of
their siblings, and will have to determine the importance of this issue for
themselves. Daniel Craig's adult daughter Ella will have a little sister or
brother at the end of this year, as will Norman Reedus's grown son Mingus. Josh
Brolin's 29- and 24-year-old children are going to be the older siblings of a
baby girl, and Brigitte Nielsen's four adult sons (ranging in age from 23 to
34) will welcome another sibling into their brood.
For some, like Daniel Craig, creating a
harmonious sibset shouldn't be too much of a problem. For other, like Brigitte
Nielsen, it's already a lost cause. As for the rest, I'm curious to see how it
will play out--will these stars decide that a well-matched sibset is the way to
go, or give it up to choose the name that most speaks to their heart?
Claire Danes and Hugh Dancy
Gender: unknown
Siblings: Cyrus
Michael Christopher
Five years ago, Claire Danes and Hugh Dancy gave
their son the historic, regal-adjacent name Cyrus. It strikes that elusive
unpopular-but-familiar balance that is so often coveted by parents-to-be. I've
got my fingers crossed for Claire and Hugh to do it again—any of my suggestions
below would fit the bill.
Girl: Cleo, Della, Fern, Greta, Isadora, Lucinda, Minna, Phoebe, Romy
Girl: Cleo, Della, Fern, Greta, Isadora, Lucinda, Minna, Phoebe, Romy
Boy: Boaz,
Bram, Edmund, Jasper, Lucian, Mercer, Oren, Royce, Simeon
Rachel Weisz and Daniel Craig
Gender: unknown
Siblings: Ella,
Henry (previous relationships)
Both Rachel Weisz and Daniel Craig have children
from a previous relationship. Daniel's 25-year-old daughter is named Ella,
while Rachel's 11-year-old son is named Henry. The two names already work well
together in terms of style, so the pressure is off for the new baby's name to
cohere their blended family. As long as they stick with the modern classics,
this combined sibset will be perfectly coordinated.
Girl: Alice, Amelia, Clara, Ivy, Lily, Lucy, Mila, Nora, Sophie, Ruby, Violet
Girl: Alice, Amelia, Clara, Ivy, Lily, Lucy, Mila, Nora, Sophie, Ruby, Violet
Boy: August,
Charlie, Jack, Oliver, Owen, Russell, Spencer, Theo, William
Shenae Grimes-Beech and Josh Beech
Gender: girl
Siblings: none
90210 star Shenae Grimes-Beech is a hardcore
rock and roll fan. Lucky for her, rock and roll (and music more generally)
offers a wealth of baby name inspiration. From guitar-strumming surnames
to soulful ballads, Shenae and Josh should have no trouble finding the
perfect name for their little wild child--whether they prefer girly and sweet
or sassy and androgynous names.
Girl: Axelle,
Bowie, Dylan, Everly, Hendrix, Jagger, Jett, Layla, Presley, Rose

Chanel Iman and Sterling Shepard
Gender: unknown
Siblings: none
Model Chanel Iman and football player Sterling
Shepard are expecting their first child together later this year! Chanel's
style is unabashedly feminine, so I predict we will see something lovely and
romantic for her baby's name, no matter if it's a boy or girl. I'd like to see
her use a name with French origins like her own—Celeste or Sabine are my
favorites for girls, and I'm partial to Julien if baby is a boy.
Girl: Anastasia,
Camille, Celeste, Elle, Rose, Ruby, Sabine, Scarlett, Simone
Boy: Clark,
Dominic, Julien, Lucian, Marcel, Maxim, Quincy, Roman, Sebastian

Francesca Eastwood and Alexander Wraith
Gender: unknown
Siblings: Trajan (previous relationship)
Clint Eastwood's daughter Francesca's name is a
variant of her mother's: Frances. I would love to see her continue the
tradition and use another Franc- name if her baby is a girl—something like
Franny or Frankie, or even just France—a cheerful (and drastically underused)
place name. Even if Francesca does not want to be her child's namesake, I
expect something frilly and ladylike for a daughter, or handsome and classic
for a son.
Girl: Cecilia,
Eloise, France, Frankie, Franny, Genevieve, Juliette, Vivienne
Boy: August,
Charles, Elliott, Harrison, Henry, Jack, James, Jasper, Theodore

Kathryn Boyd and Josh Brolin
Gender: girl
Siblings: Trevor,
Eden (previous relationship)
Back in the late eighties and early nineties,
Josh Brolin named his kids Trevor and Eden. Trevor was a well-used name during
his son's birth—sitting well within the top 100—although Eden was barely in the
top 700 when his daughter was born in 1994. Now, with an age gap of almost a
quarter century between his two youngest children, I'm curious to see if his
tastes have changed. For their newest daughter, will Josh and Kathryn choose
something well-established like Trevor, or an up-and-comer, like Eden once was?
Girl: Aurora, Briar, Emerald, Grace, Harper, Haven, Ivy, Lena, Lyra, Piper, Willow

Diane Kruger and Norman Reedus
Gender: unknown
Siblings: Mingus
Lucien (previous relationship)
Norman Reedus's adult son has the unusual
Scottish name Mingus. He is named for Charles Mingus, the jazz musician.
Perhaps Norman will be inspired by jazz again for his second child's name,
although expectant mother Diane Kruger is a native of Germany, so maybe a
Bavarian name is in order. No matter which direction they choose, there's a
plethora of good options.
Girl: Adelheid, Billie, Ella, Greta, Ilsa, Josephine, Lina, Lorelei, Matilda,
Zinnia
Boy: Axel,
Bix, Conrad, Ellington, Hugo, Kaiser, Kenton, Leon, Loudan, Till
Brigitte Nielsen and Mattia Dessi
Gender: unknown
Siblings:
Julian, Killian Marcus, Douglas Aaron, and Raoul Ayrton Jr. (previous relationships)
At 54 years old, Brigitte Nielsen is officially
the oldest celebrity mom-to-be I've ever profiled. She has four adult sons,
each with a name of different origin. Husband Mattia Dessi is Italian, so it's
likely we'll see an Italian name for baby number five. Although Brigitte
appears to have eclectic taste in baby names, so that's not a guarantee.
Girl: Amara,
Bianca, Brenna, Gia, Giuliana, Keira, Maeve, Tamsin, Wynne
Boy: Alonzo,
Dario, Declan, Conor, Marco, Matteo, Nolan, Orlando, Romeo

Celebrity Baby Name Predictions: Volume 27
As 2018 comes to a close, it’s time to
reflect on the year in celebrity baby names. It was an exciting time—three
(yes, three!) Kardashians babies were born this year, Chicago, Stormi, and
True. Chrissy Teigen and John Legend named their son Miles Theodore, Cardi B
and Offset gave their daughter the name Kulture Kiari. Other notable celebrity
baby names from 2018 include Colette Koala (Macklemore), Marvel Jane (Pete
Wentz) and Rani Rose (Kate Hudson).
Looking ahead, 2019 should be a great
year as well. Stars like Jessica Simpson, Carrie Underwood, and Snooki are all
expecting new babies in the new year. Amy Schumer, Molly Yeh, and Meghan Markle
and Prince Harry are going to become parents for the first time in 2019. So what
names will they choose for their babies? I’ve made my predictions for some of
them below.
Angela and Alfonso Ribeiro
Gender: unknown
Siblings: Sienna (previous relationship),
Alfonso Lincoln, Anders Reyn
Angela
and Alfonso Ribeiro’s two sons each have A names—Alfonso and Anders. Now that
they’re expecting their third, are they going to make this a pattern? Alfonso’s
teenage daughter is named Sienna, so it could be fun to find another S name, especially
if the baby is a girl. But even if they don’t choose to do an initial theme,
there are plenty of great options for the Ribeiro sibset.
Girl: Adeline, Allegra, Arya, Carolina, Emilia, Isabella, Juliet, Maya, Scarlett, Willow
Girl: Adeline, Allegra, Arya, Carolina, Emilia, Isabella, Juliet, Maya, Scarlett, Willow
Boy: Alaric, Axel, Benson, Dexter,
Julius, Linus, Lucien, Quincy, Vincent, Winston

Michelle Mulitz and Ben Feldman
Gender: unknown
Siblings: Charlie Milton
In 2017, Ben Feldman and wife
Michelle Mulitz gave their son the name Charlie Milton. Milton is an honor name
from Michelle’s side of the family, but Charlie was chosen for its cute-factor.
The pair of names makes quite the vintage combination. Should Ben and Michelle
try and emulate that style for their next child’s name, they should consider
the following.
Girl: Clara, Edie, Eliza, Eloise, Flora,
Hazel, Ivy, Jane, Lucy, Ruby, Ruth, Violet
Boy: Eli, Emmett, Finn, George, Gus,
Henry, Jack, Levi, Liam, Max, Milo, Theo
Molly Yeh and Nick Hagen
Gender: unknown
Siblings: none
Food blogger and TV personality Molly Yeh is pregnant with her
first child. She and her husband Nick are interested in using names or variations
of names from their family trees. Molly has Chinese and Jewish roots, while Nick’s
ancestors come from northern Europe. This gives them quite a large pool to
choose from, and I wouldn’t be surprised if their later sibset ended up with an
eclectic feel.
Girl: Anouk, Aviva, Dalia, Ilsa, Joanie,
Lia, Liora, Marnie, May, Mina, Roux
Boy: Asa, Asher, Bo, Ira, Isaac, Jack, Jacob,
Jonah, Kai, Noam, Pim, Samson

Janet Montgomery and Joe Fox
Gender: unknown
Siblings: none
British actress Janet Montgomery and boyfriend Joe Fox share a dog
named Guthrie. Guthrie is a Scottish name in origin, but feels decidedly
country-western, thanks in part to singer Woody Guthrie. Cowboy and -girl names
are actually some of the fastest rising in England and Wales, so I’d wager that
the couple will chose something with some country vibes for their son or
daughter.
Girl: Hallie, Harlow,
Indie, Josie, Mabel, Paisley, Rosalie, Sadie, Savannah, Skylar
Boy: Brody, Carter,
Grayson, Hunter, Jax, Jude, Levi, Lincoln, Maddox, Wyatt

Jess Weixler and Hamish Brocklebank
Gender: unknown
Siblings: none
Jess Weixler hails from the South—Kentucky, to be exact—while her
husband Hamish Brocklebank is from the UK. While it might seem like these two
regions would have disparate naming styles, there are some names that overlap. I
took names that are rising on the UK charts and also have style cred in the
American South to come up with a list of possibilities for Jess and Hamish.
Girl: Callie,
Daisy, Ellie, Esme, Georgia, Maisie, Molly, Paisley, Scarlett, Willow
Boy: Benjamin, Gabriel, Grayson,
Jackson, Jude, Miles, Rowan, Teddy, Toby

Nicole "Snooki"
Polizzi and Jionni LaValle
Gender: unknown
Siblings: Lorenzo Dominic and Giovanna Marie
Snooki Polizzi and Jionni
LaValle are going to welcome their third child in 2019. Based on the names of
their oldest two children, odds are that he or she will have a lengthy Italian name,
which ties back to their ancestral heritage. I’d love to see them use an
up-and-coming Italian name like Antonella or Luciano—their celebrity influence
could propel these names into the mainstream.
Girl: Antonella, Bianca,
Carina, Daniella, Giorgia, Giuliana, Lucia, Sienna, Viviana
Boy: Antonio, Emilio,
Leonardo, Luciano, Marcello, Matteo, Maximo, Nicolo, Santino

Carly Matros and Zachery
Bryan
Gender: boy
Siblings: Gemma, Taylor (g), Jordana Nicole
Zachery Bryan was a child star of the ‘90s, and it seems like his naming
style might be influenced by that decade. Taylor was a top ten pick for girls
from 1993-2000 (peaking at Number 6 from ’94-’96). Jordana has never broken
through the top 1000, but the very similar Jordan peaked for girls in 1997 at
Number 40. Gemma is somewhat of an outlier in the sibset, as it has currently
plateaued around Number 250. Now that Carly and Zachery are expecting a boy,
are we going to see this same ‘90s style come through in his name?
Boy: Aiden, Brady, Carson, Clayton, Cody, Dylan, Griffin, Kyle, Lucas,
Porter, Ryan

Kayla Rae Reid and Ryan
Lochte
Gender: unknown
Siblings: Caiden Zane
Olympic swimmer Ryan Lochte and his wife Kayla picked the name
Caiden Zane for their son in 2016. It’s a name that’s emblematic of the decade,
given the popularity of the -aiden names and affection for high-value Scrabble
letters like Z. I expect their next child to have a name that is similarly on-trend
and representative of the 2010s.
Girl: Addison, Aubree, Blakely, Brielle, Emerson, Everly, Kinsley,
Rylee, Zoey
Boy: Axel, Bentley, Bryson, Colton, Jace, Jaxon, Kingston, Logan,
Luke, Maverick
