Share a Coke Names: Part One

I made this here.
I'm sure you guys are familiar with the Share a Coke campaign. It's a great marketing scheme, not only because they get free advertising with every Instagrammed bottle, but because people go crazy for stuff with their names on it. While you can put any name on your coke if you order it online, only certain names are sold in store. Here in America, they chose 250 names to be a part of that group. I recorded them all, so I will list them below, then we will talk about hits and misses. It's all after the jump.

Disclaimer: This is not sponsored by the Coca Cola company. I actually don't like soda. At all.

Okay, let's talk. The goal of selling these names in stores is because people who have those names will buy them. Makes sense. Considering their main market is going to be middle aged/young adults, they tried to choose names that were common among that group. For the most part, I think they did a pretty good job. But they did make a few mistakes. Let's start with the hits.

Hits:
Abby- There are tons of Abbys, especially in the millennial crowd.
Alex- Popular for both genders, which means twice as many people could buy it.
Andrew- Forever in use.
Chris- Another one that is technically unisex, but I know men of all ages named Chris.
Emily- Walk into a room of college aged girls, one of them will be named Emily.
John- Everyone knows at least three Johns.
Michael- Perennial favorite. Very classic.
Sarah- You know moms and kids named Sarah. She hasn't really gone out of style.

Misses:
Cierra- Sierra is way more popular. Seriously.
Cristina- Not a bad choice, but Christina would have been more appropriate.
Linds- I don't understand this one. They only people who are called Linds are named either Lindsay or Lindsey. Why did they go straight for the nickname?
Makayla- Again, Michaela would have been the better choice.
Mariam- Mariam peaked in 2010 at 618. Why would that make it on the "in stores" list?
Mayra- I had never even heard of this name until making this list, but apparently it was moderately popular for a short time. Still, not enough people have it to make it worthy to be sold in stores.
Noor- Noor wasn't even in use until recently, and even though she peaked in 2011, it was at 1022.
Syed- Similarly to Noor, Syed peaked in 2000 at 748, meaning the Syed bottles probably aren't selling very well in stores.

Why didn't they include:
Anthony- Not all Anthonys are called Tony.
Christina- She was really popular, and makes more sense than Cristina.
Elizabeth- This one baffles me. Elizabeth has been popular forever.
Jessica- The Coca Cola company picked a lot of names that peaked in the 70s and 80s, but seem to have forgotten this major phenomenon.
Joseph- Seriously? No Joseph?
Katherine- Yes, they had Kate, Katie, and Kathy, but many Katherines I know go by their full name.
Matthew- Plenty of people answer to Matthew rather than Matt these days.
Melissa- I can't tell you how many Melissas I know.

Part Two on Friday.
