Celebrity Baby Name Predictions: Volume 24

Names are very revealing. They carry demographic information—names often give clues as to one's approximate age, race, nationality, and gender. However, our names say more about our parents than they do about us. A child's name can tell you a lot about his or her parents' values.

For example, Jason Aldean and Brittany Kerr named their oldest son Memphis Aldean Williams. Memphis indicates their deep ties to the South—both as the birthplace of country music and of Jason and Brittany. And Aldean, the middle name baby Memphis shares with his father, tell us the couple values family, heritage, and tradition.

Brittany is now pregnant with their second child, and I wonder if the same values will come across in this baby's name, or if new ones will be revealed. Likewise, what will we learn about the stars who have never named children before? Will Pippa Middleton use a family name for her baby, or choose something unexpected? Will Kate Upton go the typical supermodel route and pick a daring, bold baby name, or stick closer to her Midwestern roots with a safer, subdued choice? I've made my predictions below, but only time will tell.

Hilary Duff and Matthew Koma
Gender: girl
Siblings: Luca Cruz (previous relationship)
It's going to be a girl for Hilary Duff and Matthew Koma, and the pair has taken to calling her "Baby B" on social media. So it appears as if she's going to have a B name, but which one? There are plenty of great options, but I'm holding out for Bianca, because that would be a nice addition to the sibset.
Girl: Bailey, Bea, Bella, Bianca, Blair, Blythe, Bree, Briar, Brinley, Brynn
*Update* Baby girl B is Banks Violet!

Pippa Middleton and James Matthews
Gender: unknown
Siblings: none
What will the Duchess of Cambridge's sister name her baby? The bettors are saying Catherine or Michael. Michael seems like it's a distinct possibility—it's the name of Pippa's father, as well as James's late brother—but I'm not so sure that that the couple would name a daughter after her aunt. My best guess is that they'll choose something with traditional British class, but with some flair, as Pippa doesn't have the same restrictions as her older sister.
Girl: Alice, Amelia, Caroline, Clara, Eleanor, Josephine, Madeline, Rosamund
Boy: Bennett, Edward, Frederick, Michael, Nicholas, Oliver, Peter, Thomas

Iva and Mike Colter
Gender: unknown
Siblings: Naiella
Mike Colter and his wife Iva gave their oldest daughter the name Naiella. Naiella is an invented name, yet it sounds very on-trend with names like Isabella, Gabriella, and Arabella floating around many American playgrounds. If baby number two is another girl, I expect we'll see another long and feminine name. For a boy, something cool and masculine.
Girl: Amina, Aziza, Callista, Ciara, India, Kalea, Lelia, Liliana, Samaya, Viviana
Boy: Adrian, Austen, Brody, Caden, Cairo, Dominic, Elijah, Julian, Mason, Roman

Elizabeth Smart and Matthew Gilmour
Gender: unknown
Siblings: Chloé, James
Elizabeth Smart and her husband Matthew Gilmour chose the enduring, modern staples Chloé and James for their first two children. Now that they're expecting baby number three, I don't see why they would stray from that tried and true pattern. While they're not for everybody, there's a reason names like Chloé and James are so well-liked—they are tailored, straightforward, and perennially stylish. It's likely that James and Chloé's new brother or sister will have a name along those same lines.
Girl: Audrey, Ella, Grace, Isabelle, Juliet, Lily, Lucy, Nora, Sophie, Violet
Boy: Charles, Elias, Henry, Lucas, Oliver, Peter, Sebastian, Theodore, William
*Update* Hello, Olivia!

Colleen Ballinger and Erik Stocklin
Gender: unknown
Siblings: none
Colleen Ballinger is best known for her YouTube alter-ego Miranda Sings, a quirky and offbeat character with oodles of confidence. In real life, Colleen is much more subdued. In a 2015 video on her personal channel, she claimed her first-born would be named Lily or Noah. Has she deviated from those names in the past three years, or will she stick to her guns?
Girl: Aria, Aurora, Ella, Grace, Ivy, Lily, Olivia, Ruby, Sophia, Willow, Zoey
Boy: Ben, Evan, Finn, Jack, Jude, Logan, Luke, Mason, Max, Noah, Owen
*Update* It's a boy—Flynn Timothy!

Addison Timlin and Jeremy Allen White
Gender: unknown
Siblings: none
Shameless actor Jeremy Allen White and Addison Timlin are a young, fashionable couple. The names that people in this demographic tend to choose are trendy up-and-comers, rather than well-established, classic names. Using that logic, I've picked out some names that I think Addison and Jeremy might like.
Girl: Cassia, Clementine, Elodie, Esme, Harlow, Haven, Jayne, Piper, Romy
Boy: Asher, Beckett, Callum, Charlie, Dashiell, Finn, Magnus, Sawyer, Wilder
*Update* It's a girl—Ezer Billie!

Brittany Kerr and Jason Aldean
Gender: unknown
Siblings: Keeley, Kendyl (previous relationship), Memphis Aldean
Jason Aldean is one of the top country stars, so it was no surprise when he gave his son the very countrified name Memphis back in 2017. Now that he and wife Brittany Kerr are welcoming their second child together so soon after their first, I predict that we will be hearing another name with some serious country vibes.
Girl: Annabelle, Emmeline, Georgia, Gracen, Layne, Maisie, Nova, Willow
Boy: Beau, Brooks, Dixon, Hayes, Jude, Knox, Macon, McCoy, Mercer, Nash
*Update* A girl—Navy Rome!

Kate Upton and Justin Verlander
Gender: unknown
Siblings: none
Supermodel Kate Upton and Houston Astros pitcher Justin Verlander are expecting their first child later this year. In the past, supermodels have been known to choose incredibly fashionable (sometimes avant-garde) names—not unlike the clothes they wear down the runway. Will Kate Upton follow suit with her baby's name?
Girl: Bee, Coco, Dove, Elara, Etta, Josie, Lilac, Maelle, Mirabelle, Vale, Zella
Boy: Ash, Aubin, Bowden, Fielding, Hart, Jet, Lucan, Redford, Remy, True
*Update* Welcome, Genevieve Upton!

And the Nominees Are: Oscar Nominee Names

I adore the Oscars. Other award shows are so bland, but The Academy Awards captivate me all night long. I have compiled some names inspired by Oscar nominated films, actors, and more as inspiration for a babe born on the fantastic night.

Expected:
Jasmine- The Woody Allen directed film Blue Jasmine was nominated for best writing. Jasmine is a lovely name, if not slightly outdated.
Lupita- Lupita Nyong'o of 12 Years a Slave is getting a lot of attention this year. Her fashion sense and acting skills are highly praised, but what about her name? Lupita is a great choice that should be embraced by more parents.
Omar- This Palestinian film of the same name is nominated for best foreign language film. Omar is a great cross-cultural name, perfect for families of mixed backgrounds.
Wolf- Wolf is a cool-boy's name, but The Wolf of Wall Street might not be the movie to gain inspiration from.

Unique:
Blue- Again from Blue Jasmine, but this time, more likely to be inspired by Beyoncé's daughter.
Celestine- What a gorgeous elaboration of Celeste. Inspired by the animated film Ernest and Celestine, about a mouse and a bear.
Ernest- This old-school pick would make a refreshing choice on a baby.
Moon- The Moon Song from Her was absolutely beautiful (and deserve the win in my book). What a lovely lullaby it would make for a daughter named Moon.
Phillips- I'm not a fan of Tom Hanks, but his surname in Captain Phillips is baby name worthy.

Unheard of:
Dallas- This unisex name will remind people of Texas much more than Dallas Buyers Club.
Gatsby- Nominated for costume design, The Great Gatsby has a plethora of great named characters, but Gatsby makes your intentions obvious.
Llewyn- Inside Llewyn Davis was nominated for best cinematography. Llewyn strikes me as out of the box but wearable. A more masculine form of Llewellyn.
Philomena- I haven't seen the film, but Philomena is a great Greek name that is one hundred percent wearable in 2014.

Middle Name Statistics

Middle names are something we all like to talk about, but unfortunately, the Social Security Administration doesn't record middle names of babies, only first names. So you can imagine how thrilled I was when I saw that my high school graduation program included most peoples' middle names--this offered me a set of data. Now, my high school only graduated 736 people, and some don't have middle names, or didn't want it to be listed in the program. However, my area is extremely diverse--racially, socio-economically, and religiously--so the small set of data I do have is still worth anaylzing. Celebrity Baby Name Predictions: Volume 28

The new year brought with it a barrage of celebrity pregnancy announcements. We’re starting off 2019 strong with stars like Gordon Ramsay and Kobe Bryant adding little ones to their (already large) families. Other notables like Andy Cohen and Katy Tur are each going to welcome their first child this year. And of course, what is going to be one of the most hotly anticipated birth announcements of 2019, the Kardashian West baby. Yes, North, Saint, and Chicago are getting another sibling, and he or she is going to have an unconventional name to match. So start placing your bets now (and maybe take out your dictionary), because we’ve got an eventful year ahead of us.

Joana Pak and Steven Yeun
Gender: unknown
Siblings: Jude Malcolm
Actor Steven Yeun and photographer Joana Pak are expecting another little one! Their oldest is Jude Malcolm—a handsome name that feels timely but not trendy. My guess is we’ll see something along the same lines for baby number two, potentially one of the following:
Girl:
Audrey, Chloe, Isla, Lily, Luna, Mae, Mila, Nora, Ruby, Sadie, Stella, Wren
Boy: Asher, Beckett, Elliot, Flynn, Graham, Holden, Jonas, Leo, Miles, Owen, Rhys

Margo Price and Jeremy Ivey
Gender: unknown
Siblings: Judah, Ezra
Nashville-based country singer Margo Price is pregnant with her third child. She gave her twins, born in 2010, the stylish biblical names Judah and Ezra. The odds are high that Margo and Jeremy will use another name from the Bible for their next baby, especially if it’s a boy. These are my top picks:
Girl: Anna, Evangeline, Lydia, Mabel, Mae, Matilda, Ruth, Selah, Tabitha
Boy: Amos, Asher, Elijah, Gideon, Isaac, Levi, Micah, Noah, Samuel, Silas
*Update* It's a girl—Ramona Lynn!

Katy Tur and Tony Dokoupil
Gender: boy
Siblings: none
When it comes to celebrity baby names, journalists and reporters tend to be less outrageous than other stars. Katy Tur is pregnant with her first child, and I am not expecting anything along the lines of Kulture or Chicago. She and husband Tony Dokoupil are much more likely to use a familiar and fashionable classic for their son’s name. However, Katy’s middle name is Bear, which would be a fun honorific.
Boy: Alexander, Benjamin, Bear, Emmett, James, Jasper, Luca, Nathaniel, Theodore
*Update* Yes, baby boy is Theodore, called Teddy!

Andy Cohen
Gender: boy
Siblings: none
Bravo producer and Real Housewives wrangler Andy Cohen is set to welcome a son in the next few weeks! Rumor has it that the name is already picked out, although Andy hasn’t shared any hints as to what it might be. Andy has a bright, loud, and fun personality and doesn’t take himself too seriously—qualities that may be present in his son’s name. I highly doubt we are going to see something too vintage, lengthy, or fussy.
Boy: Asa, Axel, Cosmo, Cyrus, Fox, Gus, Knox, Levi, Louis, Otto, Rex, Romer
*Update* Welcome, Benjamin Allen!

Chloe Melas and Brian Mazza
Gender: boy
Siblings: Leo
It’s another boy for reporter Chloe Melas and husband Brian Mazza. The pair are already parents to their son Leo, who was born in 2017. Do you remember what I said about journalists and baby names before? I don’t anticipate Chloe and Brian will choose a name from out of left field for this baby either. One of these names would be apt:
Boy: Arlo, August, Ben, Everett, Finn, Henry, Julian, Quinn, Micah, Sam, Wyatt

Tana and Gordon Ramsay
Gender: unknown
Siblings: Megan, Jack, Holly, Matilda
Tana and Gordon Ramsay are having their fifth child, with a full 17-year age gap between their newest babe and current youngest, Matilda. Baby name taste can change dramatically over a period this long, but my guess would be that this little boy or girl will have a name that fits with his or her older siblings. I expect Baby Ramsay will have a name that is familiar, well-liked, and vaguely British.
Girl:
Annie, Grace, Flora, Harriet, Ivy, Josephine, Kate, Lucy, Poppy, Ruby, Sophie
Boy: Charlie, Eli, Felix, Harrison, James, Liam, Luke, Milo, Oliver, Rory, Theo, Toby
*Update* It's a boy—Oscar James!

Vanessa and Kobe Bryant
Gender: girl
Siblings: Natalia, Gianna, Bianka
It’s baby girl number four for the Bryants! Vanessa and Kobe love their long and romantic Italian girl names, so I’d be shocked if they went in a different direction. My top choice for Natalia, Gianna, and Bianka’s sister is Chiara—a vastly underused Italian name that is related to Claire. That being said, any of these other choices would be lovely as well.
Girl: Allegra, Arianna, Chiara, Giuliana, Francesca, Luciana, Mariella, Sienna, Simona, Viviana

Kim Kardashian and Kanye West
Gender: unknown
Siblings: North, Saint, Chicago
2019 is going to be a good one, because we have another Kardashian baby! And not just any Kardashian baby, a Kim Kardashian-Kanye West baby, who we know is going to have a name that will blow our minds. After three kids, Kim and Kanye’s naming style is clear—obscure word names. My favorites for them are listed here, but in all likelihood Kim and Kanye are going to choose a name that no one could have ever predicted.
Girl: Ciel, Dove, Forever, Glory, Halo, Karma, Lux, Majesty, Moon, Poetry, Revel, Soul, Wisdom
Boy: Brave, Champ, Chief, Epic, Ever, Four, Hero, Knight, Loyalty, Noble, Quest, Stellar, Winner
*Update* Psalm West!
